Books, more or less.
Aug. 17th, 2006 12:37 pmI've read classics this summer, mainly to make my grandmother happy (she still guards her tongue around me). Got through "Lord of the Flies" and "Animal Farm". None of the two are particular worthwhile reads: neither especially well written or thought out, the endings are respectively stupid and the best feature of the book. I can't see why I bothered.
I read "The Republic of Trees", which turned out to be unimaginative and the proud owner of a particularly bad ending. Joseph Geary's "Spiral" was a pain, and Pratchett's "Mort" not as good as "The Light Fantastic" - but entertaining, nevertheless.
And I have a bit of a rant: Why do gay people have to stick their sexual inclinations in my face? Why is it always "I'm lesbian, and my name is Alex" not "Hi, I'm Alex"? I've no problem with people being gay or bi, or whatever other fancy strikes them, I don't care. Fuck the partner of your chosen sex whatever way you want. It's none of my business, and I don't want to know. They make me a lot more uncomfortable with their attempted frankness then they could ever had they not informed me. Fuck your partner upside down for all I care, but do it in silence, unless I ask for detail.
