There's a gaping hole in this well-read persona I've been cultivating, I've never read Roth. Don't quite get how I've managed to evade him through years of reading both in an out of class.

Fully fledged self-hate going on, because I have not gotten my act together enough to learn, at least, the smattering of Russian necessary to pass this godawful exam. I'm required to translate a paragraph of simple sentences, and justify my choices of tense. How much simpler does it get? Someone imbue me with discipline. Or grant me the gift of hard work, you may even take all of my questionable intelligence if you could just get me to do the fucking work.

I cannot teach you Russian, but I can offer you another date which does not involve me being extremely hungover. Tempting? I just need to get the book Maria ordered for me, so that I've actually got something to do myself.
