niriniaIn Disgrace (1999) Coetzee concludes "No country, this [South Africa], for old men". Echoing Yeats' Sailing to Byzantium" (1928, -24?), with the same opening lines. McCarthy alludes to both, titling his novel No Country for Old Men. And the Cohen brothers' film (2008).
Why did no one ever give me assignments like this? And, everyone, read Disgrace. It's contemptible and brilliant. I haven't hated a main character so much in years.
