So it ends, the historical election that started on my birthday. Obama is president and Palin will never set foot in The White House. I am not sure I can believe that they actually did it. While I hoped he would win, I thought it somehow would never happen. That their courage would not hold up til the end.

He was the right man at the right time. Not only is he charismatic and well-spoken, he could not have chosen a more apt message. Change, after eight years of Bush, two wars and now the financial crisis. McCain at some point said he does not know much about finances, and Palin turned out to be a very poor choice of running mate. Also, Obama had Oprah. I can't wait to see how he does as President. That he represents a minority also counts in his favour. The sheer numbers of voters he has amassed is amazing. All those individuals that would never have voted if not for him.

McCain's speech was worthy of him: dignified and unifying.

Completely unrelated: I opened my inbox – as I invariable am forced to do occasionally –, and between a ton of facebook and LJ notifications, I found several automated "Happy Birthday!" mails from various forums. Teh internets wished me a happy birthday. The world is weird.
